More Humour in Mass Effect 3?

After the shift into darker territory with Mass Effect 2, the series director, Casey Hudson has intimated that the third part of the trilogy will bring ‘fun and lightness’ back to the series.  In an interview with Official Xbox Magazine, while understandably not rushing to spill the beans on the game just yet, Hudson did elaborate a little after talking about balancing adult themes and realism with fun:

“…the second story in a trilogy is where you traditionally end up in a fairly dark place. The third story is where you try and bring some fun and lightness back into it. One thing we tried to do with Mass Effect 2 was as well as bringing in the more mature stuff, we also tried to bring in a lot more humour so that we can go to these places without making it an overbearing experience.”

With the third game touted as ‘an epic conclusion’ to the series, more darkness is promised for those who enjoyed the second part’s grittiness, but the humour quotient will be upped to offer some relief – so perhaps no need to panic unduly if your trilogy tastes tend to veer more to an ‘Empire’ than ‘Jedi’ feel.  Raise your Ewok barriers now.
