Nintendo 3DS – February Release

When the shiny Nintendo 3DS was first shown off at E3 2010, even our most ardent Nintendo-phobics at GLHQ were impressed. While our tech-lovers admired the sleek style and pondered the 3D innards, the Nintendo fans were busy picking their jaws up off the floor at the list of games that were being bandied about for the new handheld. Games such as: Animal Crossing, Ocarina of Time, Starfox, Resident Evil, Metal Gear Solid, and of course, Kid Icarus to name but a few.
While we have always known that the gorgeous gadget will hit the East first, there has been much impatient speculation about the release date, which has now just been confirmed as 26th February 2011 in Japan. With Western release dates still set to be announced, Nintendo have confirmed that the Japanese release will roll in at an eyebrow hiking 25,000 yen (£188.00) and will be available in two colours: Aqua Blue and Cosmo Black.
We’ll update as soon as we have any further details, though in the meantime, we’re off to PlayAsia to price up an import…here’s hoping they won’t be region coded – after all, since they cost more than an Xbox360 Elite, Nintendo should be cutting us some slack.

gahhhhh i want one!
Nintendo have a long-standing policy of not locking regions on their handhelds. The GBA and DS could easily have been region specific and weren’t, and I’m hoping that this remains the case.
Not because I plan on importing one before they come out here. Because Japan always gets special edition designs that we don’t a year or two into the life cycle, like the Final Fantasy III DS.
Usually Ninty are great with not region locking anything, however, I did hear that it was a consideration with the 3DS. It made my heart sink.
