New Sherlock Holmes Game Announced

Only months after the release of the successful and critically acclaimed Testament of Sherlock Holmes, the sixth game in the long running series by Frogwares Studio, comes the announcement that Sherlock fans have been waiting for.  The latest game in the Holmes series has just been revealed and players can expect some big changes across the board.  Crimes and Punishments will be the first game that will abandon Frogwares’ graphics engine and, instead, utilise the Unreal Engine 3, meaning that the graphics will take a quantum leap.  The developers promise more realistic environments, along with dynamic lighting and shadows, but the game isn’t the only thing to have been given a makeover, as Frogwares have let go of the traditional portrayal of Holmes and, instead, opted for a more modern look.  How popular this will prove to be remains to be seen – we don’t want another ‘Dante’s hair’ type scandal.

As far as the game itself goes, rather than just one labyrinthine case, you are tasked with eight to solve, from murders to thefts, only this time it isn’t all about justice, as the devs are promising real freedom and moral choices.  All decisions will influence the game and affect your character’s reputation, bringing about often unforeseen consequences, which should spice up the gameplay.

Given how much we enjoyed Testament of Sherlock Holmes, here at GLHQ, we’re now very much impatient for this latest adventure.  Don’t expect it anytime in the first two quarters, however – this feels more like an Autumn/Winter release.  As soon as we know more we’ll keep you posted, but until then, here are the first screenies for you to pour over.
