Wargame: European Escalation Announced

Contrary to popular belief, war is certainly good for something, and that something is the games industry who have yet to relinquish their firm hold on these shooty, tank filled playgrounds. Latest to step up and take aim is Focus Home Interactive with their latest title, Wargame: European Escalation. All is not what it seems however, as they’ve avoided the overdone battlegrounds of WWII and instead plumped for a period between 1975 and 1985.

This real-time strategy title from Eugen Systems (Act of War: Direct Action and R.U.S.E) operates in the ‘What If’ niche of the war genre, offering a speculative battleground as NATO forces lock horns with the Warsaw Pact (Soviet and Eastern European countries). In their hypothetical version of history, against the backdrop of the cold war and the fear of nuclear war, the game’s action takes the shape of large, armoured attacks across the continent, in what Focus are promising are ‘intense, real-time battles’.  Wargame: European Escalation is set to offer ‘unique and innovative gaming’, with a large list of features which include the IRISZOOM – players can swoop from a global view into the very heart of the action. One to keep the war time strategists happy, while those who enjoy a moan about war games can perhaps have their fires stoked by this entry into the speculative genre.

I rather enjoyed R.U.S.E so I’ll have to keep an eye out for this one.
